Art Heart: Children of Riot Grrrl and Beyond chronicles the personal narratives of Elliat Graney-Saucke and Celeste Chan in their friendship as two girls of hippy/outsider and immigrant parents in the Pacific Northwest, and how they found themselves, their feminist voices and early sparks of personal power in the riot grrrl / queer core scene in Olympia, Washington as young adults. The film expands to include interviews and original creative works by some of their main inspirations/sheros from this era, as well as from a richly diverse selection innovative contemporaries and peers who are also “children of riot grrrl.” In the spirit of feminist DIY culture, this personal art narrative documentary uses ‘the personal as political’ to take a fresh approach to telling of riot grrrl by looking at both the glitter, spit and glory as well as the blind spots and growing pains of this era of punk feminism, expanding the narrative to look at what happened next…
